CROSSED WIRES: an exploration on electricity & sexual assault
is this just another street fighter zine...yes
243 days.. crossed wires is a greyscale landscape zine (28pgs) 15.01 x 6.51cm about my personal experience with child sexual abuse & harassment viewed through the lenses of the titular Street Fighter character Ken Masters ( because i cannot seem to do any sort of self exploration or digging without associating it with something else). Taking his all of two minute torture sequence & not only viewing it through the lens of SA & how it can heavily warp your body but also the internalised transphobia & homophobia I've come to relate the character with (sorry not sorry Capcom Ltd). through writing this zine for the last 8 months or so i've become hooked on the idea of power lines, static, un-connected tv's & seeing the body through this lens of disconnect that not only the assault but the after effect can have you feeling very much like a television set constantly changing stations or a lone telephone pole wailing in the dark. again this is just my own interpretation of the scene, even without my input the physical & psychological torture of the character alone is enough to make the average viewer uncomfortable & this zine hasn't been very cathartic. it hasn't made my own experiences any easier to deal with or talk about. I don't feel healed or like i've accomplished something, instead i feel empty. just as empty as a phone left off the hook-forever on hold.
